First Grade Team

Lorraine Scorsone – Master Teacher                           lscorsone@schools.nyc.gov

Both in and outside of the classroom Ms. Scorsone “lives life artfully.” While she is not teaching at TNAA she loves to cook, spend time with her family and listen to music.  She graduated from Fordham University with a BA in Education and later on, received her MSc as a Reading Teacher, again, from Fordham University. Ms. Scorsone is a National Board Certified Teacher.

Nechama Barber - Partner Teacher

In addition to teaching Ms. Barber loves to swim, sing, jog and read. Born in Far Rockaway, Ms. Barber grew up in São Paolo, Brazil and now lives right here in Brooklyn! She received a BA in Humanities from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey and a MSc in Special Education from Adelphi University in Long Island. Ms. Barber has a Bilingual Teaching Administration Certificate.

Pepe Gutierrez - Partner Teacher

When not teaching at TNAA, Mr. Gutierrez enjoys competing in triathlons, cycling, fixing up his house and collecting bikes. His hometown is a small town named Pullo in Southern Peru, and currently he resides in Floral Park, NY.  Mr. Gutierrez received a BA in Psychology from Queens College, a MSc in Urban Education from Mercy College, and a MSc in Educational Leadership from Bank                                                                               Street College in Manhattan.

Susan Coronel - Partner Teacher

While Ms. Coronel is not teaching at TNAA, she loves to spend time with her family, listen to music, read, write and spend time outdoors. Though she received her BA in English from Indiana University, Ms. Coronel is originally from Little Neck, Queens.  She went on to receive a MEd in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) from Queens College and is a National Board Certified Teacher.

Mr. William Bishop - Community Associate

While not working with children at TNAA, Mr. Bishop enjoys watching sports and spending time with his family—often at the same time!   Born and raised in Brooklyn, he graduated from Murry Bergtraum H.S. in lower Manhattan and while there, he was the point guard on the varsity basketball team.  In his spare time, Mr. Bishop loves to admire the city skyline from South Street Seaport.

Ms. Savory-McKenzie - Paraprofessional

Ms. Savory lived in Demerare, Guyana for thirty years before moving, here, to Crown Heights. Raised as a proud “country girl,” she went on to graduate from Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn with a degree in Public Administration.While she is not working with children at TNAA, Ms. Savory enjoys travelling and cooking traditional Guyanese dishes. She loves to whip up roti and curry, coconut cake, cassava pone, cook-up rice and—of course—pepperpot for Christmas!

Ms. Van Rassan-Lallie - Paraprofessional

A bona fide “city girl,” Ms. Lallie grew up in Georgetown, Guyana—the land of many seas.   She came to Brooklyn when she was seven years old and later attended high school in Crown Heights and East New York.  When she is not working with children at TNAA, Ms. Lallie loves to read, cook all types of West Indian food and bake. Ms. Lallie bakes and decorates cakes of all kinds, including rum and coconut cake!
